About airvo 2

The Airvo 2 helps patients breathe comfortably and effectively. It makes use of an active heated humidifier to provide humidity during Nasal High Flow Therapy.

Airvo 2 at a glance

The Airvo 2 system includes an integrated flow generator, heated breathing tube, and various interfaces (cannula, tracheostomy, mask adapter). The Airvo 2 HFNC is recommended for different clinical reasons and scenarios, including acute respiratory failure.

Airvo 2 is suitable for use at home, too. Some patients who are diagnosed with chronic illnesses can be treated in the comfort of their homes using this system. To set it up at home, certain steps need to be followed. The Airvo 2 needs to be mounted below the patient's head height. It needs to be stable and accessible. All the chambers, tubes, and ports need to be connected as per the manufacturer's instructions. Please choose an appropriate patient interface and connect it to the end of the tube. The Airvo 2 can be turned on at this stage. The flow rate, temperature, and humidity settings need to be adjusted according to the patient's needs. A healthcare professional must be consulted regarding any concerns.

How does Airvo 2 work?

The Airvo 2 machine, as mentioned above, has several different components. The Airvo 2 humidifier happens to be an essential part of the Nasal High Flow (NHF) systems developed by Fisher & Paykel Healthcare. The system includes an AirSpiral™ heated breathing tube and chamber kit. The Airspiral tube has two spiral wires. One wire is responsible for warming the air as it passes through the tube. The other wire is responsible for providing insulation to protect the warmed air from the temperature variations that exist outside the tube. When these wires are together, they ensure the delivery of warm, humidified air to patients without discomfort or complications.

How to disinfect Airvo 2?

It is very important to perform proper Airvo 2 disinfection in order to maintain the safety of the patient and also in order to stop any cross-contamination from taking place. Firstly, the Airvo 2 needs to be prepared. It needs to be cleaned thoroughly before it is ready for reprocessing. All the necessary accessories need to be collected and placed together. These accessories include the tube and chamber kit, sterile water bag, and patient interface. Patient interface refers to a device or a system that allows and eases interaction between a patient and a medical or therapeutic apparatus.

Start by cleaning the outlet elbow by using a sponge or a cloth with an approved cleaning solution. Pay special attention to any signs of debris or buildup. Connect the red disinfection tube to the unit and attach it to the left chamber port. Attach the blue filter cap to the right chamber port. Start the disinfection cycle by holding the power button for about 3 seconds. Wait for approximately 55 minutes until the cycle is completed. Make sure that the unit is turned off after the disinfection cycle. Carefully remove the disinfection tube. It can also be left in place for storage. Next, seal the unit. To do so, use a clean storage cover. Make sure to put down the disinfection date and number on the cover in writing. Store the unit and disinfection kit in a clean, dry, and dust-free area. Proper disinfection ensures that the Airvo 2 is safe to use for the next patient who requires assistance.
