Buckets with lids can be a valuable tool used to store endless items, from dried food and liquids to makeshift animal shelters for rabbits. With countless uses, buckets with lids can come in different sizes and made of different materials.

Materials used to make buckets with lids

Many five gallon buckets with lids are made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE). This is a thermoplastic polymer that is generally made out of petroleum. Since this is one of the most versatile and commonly used types of plastics, buckets with lids are often made from it for a variety of reasons.

1. It makes them corrosion resistant, which is essential in preventing mold, mildew, and rotting when storing a bucket and lid for long periods or in areas susceptible to these elements. Moreover, since it is sterilized in boiling water, perishable items like food and water can be stored inside buckets with lids for a long period.

2. Buckets with lids made out of HDPE are easily recyclable. This helps to keep non-biodegradable waste out of oceans and landfills and reduces plastic production.

3. HDPE provides a higher strength-to-density ratio, which allows buckets with lids to hold gallons of liquid or higher amounts of other items without breaking. This is great for food buckets with lids or buckets holding books, grains, or sand.

Different uses for buckets with lids

Any white plastic bucket features a host of uses for many different purposes. In addition to the common uses mentioned above, like storing food and liquids, buckets with lids are also good for gardening, specifically growing tomatoes or basil plants in a greenhouse, against a fence, or wall. A white plastic bucket can also be used as a paint container. By placing a plastic bag inside before pouring in paint, the cleanup job is much easier. Some five-gallon buckets with lids can be transformed into a dog feeder by cutting a feeding hole at the base and attaching a bowl or surface for the food. They can also be used as handy tool holders or buckets for storing necessary equipment in a larger container. Given the easily usable handle and lightweight design, they can be more portable than the standard toolbox. Bucket lids are even sometimes used as a cord reel with handles attached to both sides with a sealant. Makeshift birdhouses are also a suitable use, as the space and corrosion-resistant material make a white plastic bucket safe and easy to transform.
