Toy phones are beneficial toys and props used by kids for pretend play and learning. Pretend cell phones look like real phones but don’t make actual phone calls or send messages. Instead, a pretend iPhone has a realistic-looking screen, fake buttons, and may even make noises like a real phone. Realistic toy phones let children explore their imaginations, play dress-up and make-believe, and feel like a grown-up.

What does a pretend iPhone look like?

Pretend iPhones are designed to look like an authentic smartphone. This includes the shape, color, and layout. Most pretend iPhones are black or gray with clear displays. Most pretend phones don’t have working screens, but instead, a sticker or artificial main screen that displays icons similar to a real cell phone. These include fake widgets for email, the weather, text messages, phone calls, and even fake social media apps. The pretend cell phone may even have a mini flashlight that resembles a real iPhone or a flash that goes off when a fake picture is taken.

What is a flip toy phone?

Slightly different than a pretend iPhone or smartphone, pretend flip phones function like outdated phones that close and open with a display screen on top and a keypad on the bottom. Some may even have an antenna that extends from the top. These types of pretend cell phones may also have buttons that make noise and a generic display. Many fake and pretend cell phones, similar to Fisher Price phones, may use stickers to resemble realistic buttons, text, and other features. They may or may not make noise or include a working speaker.

Other types of pretend cell phones

Not all pretend iPhones look realistic or work like real smartphones. Some Fisher Price phone toys and other brands that cater to toddlers and young learners offer colorful pretend phones that are much larger with big buttons, lights, noises, and fun and playful characters. For example, some Fisher Price phones are designed like adorable animals or cartoon characters with smiling faces and fake arms and legs with the body resembling the buttons of a cell phone. These toy phones are designed to teach young learners colors, sounds, numbers, and more. Some toy phones are also made of soft, plus materials and may even offer teething features like tags. Pretend cell phones also come in a variety of sizes, from mini keychains to large plush toys for infants.
